La tentazione di prenderlo su due piedi solo per mantenere completa la discografia è stata forte, ma poi ho preferito pensarci su un attimo – specialmente dopo aver letto: “… Unforgiven III”… ma non se ne va mai?
Prima assaggiare, poi eventualmente comperare.

Se devo essere sincero, fino ad ora non mi stanno esaltando nemmeno i singoli – anzi, nello specifico The Day That Never Comes è veramente brutta. (Hetfield non mi da più i brividi di un tempo. sigh).

Per ora direi che il disco rimane lì, molto meglio i Disturbed che fortunatamente ho già preso.
E se voglio ascoltarmi i metallica, S&M e Master of Puppets sono sempre lì.

Devo dire che non è niente male, nonostante non ci sia più Tarja – i Nightwish hanno rimpiazzato la voce con Annette Olzon, seguendo una scelta presumibilmente di mercato e per rinnovarsi un po’ (oltre che personale per esigenze di gruppo).
Non hanno fatto male: risultano diversi ma sempre sinfonici e sicuramente più popular – il che magari aiuterà le vendite togliendoli dalla nicchia in cui potevano essere relegati.
L’album rimane validissimo a parer mio, ma i fasti di Once e Wishmaster sono lontani proprio per questo ammorbidimento di genere.

Un paio di note sulle canzoni: il disco rimane metal in senso stretto, specialmente nelle prime tracce (da cui per altro sono stati presi i vari singoli). Dal mio punto di vista comunque sono proprio le canzoni che si distaccano di più dal vecchio power che caratterizzano il cd: l’inno strumentale Last Of The Wilds per me è un folk fantastico, e pure For the Heart I Once Had e The Islander sono a loro modo bellissime. In realtà sarebbero da citare tutti i pezzi del disco, data la qualità melodica e l’integrazione perfetta con la voce di Annette, così diversa dalla precedente.
Tanto di cappello a Tuomas Holopainen, decisamente ispirato.

Davvero potente.
E pensare che tutto è legato alla voce del cantante… Rimastami impressa da Forsaken della OST di Queen of the Damned quando non sapevo manco chi fosse. Forte averlo scoperto ora, a distanza di anni, dopo aver tenuto in testa quella voce e quel brano per tanto tempo.

A volte ritornano.

Grazie al fu-k0b4-bloggo, ho scoperto l’esistenza dei Yoshida Brothers: strumenti tradizionali giapponesi, sintetizzatori, batteria e parecchia influenza rock.
Veramente interessanti.

Immenso. Per chi non lo sapesse Nightfall in Middle-Earth è un album dei Blind Guardian del 1998, potentissimo, fantastico, dalle liriche ispiratissime e tratte dal Simarillon di J.R.R. Tolkien. Per quel che mi riguarda, è immancabile.

Ogni canzone è un delirio, almeno per me. Sarà che ci rivedo le storie, sarà la melodia avvincente, saranno i cori riuscitissimi. Un’emozione che non mi molla fino all’ultimo brano.
